Organisational circles

Our circle structure

Right from the start we have developed an organisation that fits with our understanding of how women like to work together. Our org chart is a spiral with small circles of women taking on particular tasks and activities and feeding in to and out of a central coordinating Hub. We have deliberately kept our structure flexible so we can respond to new opportunities.

The WCC is a charitable organisation, registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for- profits Commission, and is a registered company limited by guarantee. Our constitution requires us to have 3-9 ‘directors’ whose responsibilities are to manage and direct the activities of the company to achieve its purposes. We call this group the Steering Circle.

This page shows our circles for management of the WCC.

See the Core working circles page for informaton on the cirlces involed in management of the WCC.

  • Steering

WCC is a charitable organisation, registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for- profits Commission, and is a registered company limited by guarantee. Our constitution requires us to have 3-9 ‘directors’ whose responsibilities are to manage and direct the activities of the company to achieve its purposes. We call this group the Steering Circle.

This circle sets the strategic direction of the WCC, develops its policies and manages its financial viability. It is also responsible for ensuring that the WCC operate in line with its vision and values and that the organisation meets its legal obligations as a charitable organisation and a company limited by guarantee. The Steering Circle meets monthly online and operates in close consultation with the Hub.

    The 2021-22 Steering Circle comprises:

    Dr Janet Salisbury

    Kirsten Anker

    Barbara Baikie

    Alison Rose

    Lyn Stephens

The Steering Circle is elected at each Annual General Meeting and any member of the WCC may nominate themselves for it. We are currently looking for new members to join at our next AGM in Nov 2022. Contact Janet Salisbury at at womensclimatecongress@gmail.com

  • The Hub

The Hub is the central coordinating circle of the WCC. It functions at the operational level and is open to any member who wishes to contribute. It meets monthly and hears reports from each of the WCC circles so that activities to be coordinated and prioritised. It also responds to requests for advice from the Steering Circle.

To join, contact Nettie Hulme at at womensclimatecongress@gmail.com

  • Memberships and communications

The purpose of the Membership and Communications Circle is to:

    • encourage women to join the WCC

    • offer those who do a welcoming experience and the opportunity to connect with other women who share the WCC vision and values;

    • provide information on WCC activities to members and the public; and,

    • where appropriate, to support WCC member advocacy for united action on climate change.

This Circle manages Connect.WCC (this private members’ platform), hosts the WCC Book Club, the Earth Arts Circle and ad hoc Members’ Circles. It assists with social media and produces a monthly newsletter. In the coming year, this circle would like to support the Advocacy Circle in developing member activities with elected representatives and to give attention to increasing the diversity of WCC membership.

The Membership Circle usually meets monthly online and current members are Jenny Robinson, Lynne Audsley, Nettie Hulme, Honey Nelson and Lyn Stephens (convenor). New members welcome. Contact Lyn at womensclimatecongress@gmail.com

  • Fundraising

The fundraising circle develops campaigns to raise donations from members and others. It also monitors and responds to grant opportunities.
